LG Confirms 3D Smartphone

LG confirmed rumors that it will soon be offering a 3D-capable display in a future smartphone.

The company said that it intends to share details about the device at the Mobile World Congress, which opens its doors on February 14 in Barcelona, Spain. The device will be called Optimus 3D and integrates a dual-lens camera system to take 3D pictures. It is not clear whether LG will use a naked eye 3D display or a display that requires users to wear active shutter glasses to see the 3D effect.

3D capability for smartphones was first mentioned by Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha last year during a lunch with Chicago executives. Samsung and Marvell later announced that their dual- and triple-core processors will be able to run 3D content in 1080p.
